Motion Graphics

Video Mime Practice:

Initial Ideas:

Sink Splash

Sink Splash – initial idea

The idea being multiple layers of splashes coming from the sink as if the tap had been turned on too strong. The splashes would overflow the sink. Possibility of having other bathroom objects moving – through the use of stop motion. This was to give the video more of an atmosphere that something ‘bad’ or ‘unexpected’ was going to happen.

Bouncing Ball

Bouncing Ball Storyboard Sketch

For the final idea I decided to do something more simple. I would use a character that will bounce a ball. At first the character would be in control of the ball but as the ball gets more momentum the character loses control of the ball. ‘The ball gains it own mind.’

The video was shot suing my digital camera. I then took the clip into Adobe Premier Pro where I edited it and added the Ball Graphic from Photoshop. Using the edit panel and timeline tools I managed to make a fairly good attempt at Video Miming, although the timing is off slightly towards the end but this can be down to the character losing control of the ball.

Kinetic Typography Practise:

Storyboard - Kinetic Typography

Storyboard – Kinetic Typography

For the Kinetic Typography Practise I chose the song Mountains by Biffy Clyro. The above storyboard displays some typography manipulation that I considered. I looked at the words and used what the meaning was to determine what the word will look like in the final piece.

However, in my first attempt I failed to make this work as the pace of the song is fast. Therefore I chose to take the acoustic version instead as this was slower. Unfortunately not slow enough so I had to come up with new ideas for the word palcement and manipulation.

The version for me is not what I hoped it would be as I have not focused on the typography enough. There isnt much difference in the balance, size, colour, etc.

Initail Ideas:

Stroyboard - Logo Idea

Stroyboard – Logo Idea

The idea behind the above storyboard is to have rectangle shaped pieces coming together to make a square almost like a jigsaw.

New Idea:

I have a new idea for the processing practice task. I thought about using a frog and have the mouth opening, the tongue striking out as if it were about to eat a fly. I will research the code for using a click of the mouse button to change between two still images.

Storyboard:

A few ideas where the frog can either jump up or stick its tongue out as if it were going to eat a fly. The action of which one I choose to go with for the final one will depend on how eay it is to create the frog still images. I will have to create two seperate images. One with the first action, sitting still. The second action of either tongue sticking out or jumping. The images will be still but to make it look like the frog has moved a click command cna be used.

Image one – click – image two

The viewers eye will make the imkage appear a s if it was moving like a video.

Frog Stills:

Frog – after click

Final Project:

I will be combining my final project to my Film Studies Final Project as the two are related in many ways. My motion graphics will be of a horror theme as the film studies film features the horror genre. I aim to produce opening titles, ending credits, transitions, kinetic typography and maybe some video mime to accompany the film for my film studies.

Storyboard:

I intend to use a similar techniques to the Paranormal Activity film as this would heighten the tension in my trailer. Home filmed footage is popular at the moment in horror movies. The main reason being people think the footage shot is actually home vidoes, making them believe the story more. My trailer features one of the characters being dragged away by the murderer. The character will only be in the film for the first part of the film and will take on the character type of “the prude”.
