Screen Based Design 2011

To the right you will find other pages related to the unit. I have used a separate page for each stage of the process; research, investigation into fonts etc., Lo-Fi prototypes, Hi-Fi prototype, evaluation.

Interpretation

As part of a team of designers and developers we have to create prototype screens suitable to function on both a kiosk style touch screen and either a smart pad or phone. The screens must be interactive as they will form an interactive timetable and must also work on a cellular network.

Examples of possible screens may include:

Main screen that branches off to the following screens:

  • Staff
  • Rooms
  • Times
  • Calendar
  • Subjects
  • Map

The average age of a student within the college is around 26. Ages can range from around 16 to 80. Therefore the screen can be designed for roughly 16+.

Possible Scenario

A student is late for college as they have missed their bus and its raining. They have forgotten their timetable and do not want to got back out in the rain to the main building to the office and find out where they are meant to be.

They come across the interactive timetable displayed in the main foyer in Media Space. They are presented with the homepage of the interactive screen where they can select to view a list of classes within the college. Once they have selected their class they can view the timetable in a daily or weekly view.

The student has worked out which class they are meant to attend. The student can click on the name of the class and view a map where it then can tell the student the route they need to take from where they are to where they need to be.

The student has successfully found their class and after a small telling off from their lecturer they can now be assured if the scenario happens again they can find their way with the interactive screen.
